Nighthawks - 1942 - Edward Hopper

Looking at the painting for quite a time it finally resonated with me, I finally have my own personal interpretation. the painting shows the diner in an very dull ordinary street, making the diner itself very eye catching with its bright tones. although on the same street it seems to have a life of its own.

The characters in the painting seem each to have a role. the man who is serving dressed in white matches very well with the diner, and like the diner he is shaded really brightly. the three other customers are all seated in a perspective were the background is always the window unlike the worker.

The perspective of the picture constantly leads my eyes to the couple seated next to each other, reason for that being that the figure giving us his back is sitting facing them, and the server looking in the direction they are seated, all they way from the outside the road bend seems to draw you in.

I see this painting to be very cinematic, as it has all the elements for great cinematography. the spacing of the image is very eye pleasing, since not everything is going on everywhere but all his happening in the lower left quarter of the image,  the colours outside are vastly darker than the inside.

Looking at this picture more and more shows me all the elements I would like to see in "See You Soon." I want the film to make the house part of the story itself, I would like the characters help lead each other to tell the story, and most importantly that there's a whole other world in the house.
