Directors Tell the Story - Bethany Rooney and Mary Lou Belli
*this is my interpretation of the book as well as my own personal notes
Context: what a director must have.
"...Requiring someone who deals easily with stress and pressure, someone who is physically robust and healthy, and most important, someone who can see how the written word can be interpreted on film"
Prep
Prep is an important time period that happens where a director prepares before principal photography starts. the director at the time interprets the script and selects every element that appears in the frame, the director reads and breaks down the story, character, style, and colour to his team. The director makes sure they have a shot list ready for everyone before shoot day.
Breaking Down the Script for StoryIt's very important that the director can read well, since the first requirement is to interpret the script, so it's important you can critically develop the ability to read and understand the material. As a Director you must make sure the script takes the audience on a journey, you must inspire your audience the same way you did when you read the first draft.
Director needs to be really confident on what' going on, if you're the slightest bit confused, the chances are your audience will be confused too.
